Brendan Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in New Delhi, India
On arrival, take a private transfer to your hotel. India’s capital is a very contemporary metropolis, layered atop more than a thousand years of ancient cities.

Day 2 Old & New Delhi
After breakfast, tour a morning market to select spices and vegetables, accompanied by a culinary expert. Then she will escort you to her home to prepare, with your help, a delicious lunch. This afternoon visit Humayun’s Tomb, an early example of resplendent Mughal architecture. Nearby the Qutab Minar (Tower of Victory) was built to announce the might of Islam and the glory of the new empire. Dinner is at the Veda restaurant, where fine Indian dining is elevated to international standards. (B,L,D)

Day 3 New Delhi. The Legacy of the Mughals
Visit the Raj Ghat, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. Drive to the Red Fort, a red sandstone monument to the pinnacle of the Mughal Empire. Proceed to Jama Masjid, a huge mosque built by Shah Jahan in the 17th century. This afternoon, experience the uniquely Indian Kingdom of Dreams. Delight in Bollywood-style dancing, music, and a host of other theatrical linkings of tradition and modernism. (B)

Day 4 New Delhi / Udaipur
Enjoy a free morning in New Delhi, fly west to Rajasthan and the city of Udaipur. The “City of Lakes” was the capital of the kingdom of Mewar, a rich and beguiling tapestry of lakeside palaces, forts, temples and gardens. (B)

Day 5 Udaipur. Royal Palaces & Gardens
After breakfast visit Udaipur’s City Palace complex, topped by crenellated walls. Explore four major palaces with lovely courtyards, colonnades and gardens. A favorite of the royal ladies was the Garden of the Maids of Honor, with tinkling fountains, sculpted kiosks and marble elephants. Then browse the traditional bazaars, full of embroidery, sculpture and custom jewelry. (B)

Day 6 Udaipur / Chomu
As you drive across Rajasthan, you’ll encounter majestic landscapes and rich village life. On arrival at the Chomu Palace Hotel you will be welcomed in grand style with a traditional feast. The hotel itself is a masterpiece of exotic architecture. (B,D)

Day 7 Chomu / Jaipur
After breakfast drive to Jaipur, the Pink City. The vibrant capital of Rajasthan is a land of natural beauty and great history, known around the world for its palaces and forts. (B)

Day 8 Jaipur Forts & Palaces
Start the day with a visit to the five-story Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds. Then, drive to a ridgetop high above Jaipur to see the Amber Fort. The fort is surrounded by fortified battlements overlooking the Moat Lake. Nearby visit the new Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing to see the colorful textile collection. This afternoon visit the City Palace Museum, which has a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes and arms. Stop at the Jantar Mantar Observatory, and stroll through a colorful bazaar. (B)

Day 9 Jaipur / Ranthambore National Park
After breakfast drive about 100 miles to one of the finest Tiger sanctuaries in India. An afternoon game drive will seek warthog, mongoose, and many species of deer – and perhaps an elusive great cat. Overnight Nahargarh, evoking a Rajput country palace. (B,L,D)

Day 10 Ranthambore National Park
Enjoy both morning and afternoon wildlife treks deep into the national park, with a break for lunch at mid-day. (B,L,D)

Day 11 Ranthambore / Bharatpur / Agra
After a final dawn game drive and breakfast, travel by rail and road to Agra. Agra is home to the incredible Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan’s sublime tribute in marble to his beloved Mumtaz Mahal. (B)

Day 12 Agra. The Taj Mahal
You’ll see the perfectly proportioned marble Itmad-ud-Daulah, and the treasurehouse of the Kohinoor. Wander through Agra Fort, which became a Mughal palace. Most impressive by far: the Taj Mahal – a symphony in white marble, a tribute to eternal love. You’ll marvel at its magnificence both at sunrise and sunset. The Taj Mahal will likely be your most indelible impression of your Indian journey. (B)

Day 13 Agra / New Delhi
After a morning at leisure in Agra, drive to New Delhi. (B)

Day 14 Depart New Delhi
Take a private transfer to New Delhi airport where your vacation ends. (B)
